Vintage Japanese Kutani Sake Bottle 1940 Ise Shrine Commemorative Tokkuri Vase
Kutani
Up for sale is a fascinating and highly collectible vintage Japanese Kutani porcelain sake bottle (tokkuri), featuring a beautiful traditional hand-painted Aka-e Kinranda (red and gold) design. The bottle depicts traditional scholars or sages examining a calligraphic scroll within a bamboo forest, beautifully detailed with fine gold accents, geometric borders, and ancient coin symbols near the neck. The underside of the base features the authentic red painted Kutani (九谷) kiln mark. Historical Significance: This is a rare commemorative piece. The hand-painted kanji inscription on the side provides a precise historical context: 皇紀二千六百年 (Kōki 2600): Commemorates the 2600th anniversary of the mythical founding of the Japanese Empire, dating the production of this exact piece to 1940 (Early Showa Period). 伊勢神宮造営記念: Commemorates the rebuilding/edification of the highly sacred Ise Grand Shrine (Ise Jingu). Measurements (Approximate): Height: 6.25 inches Condition: Excellent vintage/antique condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. The red glaze remains incredibly vibrant, and the 22k gold gilt highlights show minimal wear for its age. The 4-point foot rim shows natural shelf wear from age and storage, along with a small remnants of an old paper sticker that can be easily removed.
