Michiyuki Coat (This is a formal outerwear that should be worn outdoors and removed indoors as a matter of etiquette.)
This is a new old stock item, but it is in beautiful condition and is a finished garment. The horizontal stripe mist gradation used here belongs to the dyeing process within traditional crafts, and requires a high level of skill for the gradation. A faint underdrawing (mist gradation) is drawn across the entire back of the fabric, and depth is achieved by layering colors from a light background color (white-brown) to a deep brown on the front of the fabric. The mist widths alternate between 3 sun and 4 sun, using a technique to blur the mist from the left and right edges (darker) towards the center. These techniques are considered the mastery of artisans in this field. The lining of the coat is white-brown, on which a freehand ink sketch of the Choju-jinbutsu-giga (a scroll painting on paper in ink, passed down at Kōzan-ji Temple in Kyoto), specifically the beginning of the first scroll, is depicted in ink.
We recommend wearing this over a Houmongi, Kuro Tomesode, Iro Tomesode, Tsukesage, Iromuji, or similar kimono. It is also perfect for those involved in the tea ceremony.
