Known as the miracle vegetable, beets are rich in nutrients, especially polyphenols and minerals, making them a highly sought-after superfood.

?Cultivation Period
Spring sowing: Late March to May
Autumn sowing: Late August to early October

?How to Grow
Prefers cool climates.
Beets are not fond of acidic soil, so be sure to apply lime and till the soil well before sowing.
(They grow well after harvesting tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, onions, and peas.)

?Sowing
Beet seeds have a hard coat and are difficult to germinate. Soaking them in water overnight will improve germination.
Cut slits about 20 cm apart in mulch and use a stake or similar tool to create shallow furrows in the slits.
Sow 1-2 seeds every 1-2 cm in the furrows, cover lightly with soil (less than 1 cm), gently press down, and water thoroughly.
?Thinning
Thin twice, aiming for a spacing of 10 cm by the time the true leaves appear (4-5 leaves).
[1st Thinning]
Several sprouts will emerge from each seed. Once the cotyledons open, thin the seedlings so that their leaves do not touch each other.
[2nd Thinning]
Perform the second thinning when the plants have 4-5 true leaves, aiming for a final spacing of about 10 cm between plants.
?Top Dressing
After the final thinning, apply a chemical fertilizer around the base of the plants.
?Pest Control
Even with insect netting, caterpillars and armyworms may appear. Check frequently and remove any pests you find.
