■Danjuro Specialty: Seeds grown and harvested from a single variety.
This variety is also famous for competitive flower shows.
It boasts many attractive features, including the contrast between the deep reddish-brown color, the pure white sun ring (nichirin nuke), the yellow-tinged leaves, and the beautiful, notched cicada leaves (semiha).
For me, the vibrant green color of the morning sun provides energy for the day.

■Danjuro Flowers
Nichirin Nuke (Sun Ring)
This refers to the part of the flower tube that is white.
It is called nichirin nuke (meaning round sun) because the boundary between the white part and the deep reddish-brown color is clearly defined.

■Danjuro Leaves
Referred to by the two characters Ki and Se.
Ki refers to the single-colored, yellowish-green leaves.

Se refers to Semiha (Cicada Leaf).
When wing-like lobes (ears) develop on both sides of the true leaves,
if they grow well, two ears will form on each side,
resulting in four ears on a single leaf and a beautifully curved cicada leaf (see images 1 and 6).

The Danjuro I grow inherits the Suhamarin large flower gene, which can be confirmed even in the seedling stage.
Compared to common morning glories, the cotyledons are rounder,
and the Suhamarin lineage is characterized by a shape resembling a military fan (see image 5).

The charm of this Danjuro lies not only in its flowers but also in its beautifully notched ears
and its leaves, which are as clear as the fresh green of new foliage.

I have been specializing in cultivating only Danjuro morning glories for several decades since the Showa era.
To avoid cross-pollination with other varieties, I do not grow any other morning glories.
