Description
Thank you for viewing.

These are kogomi seedlings, a spring delicacy perfect for tempura, sesame dressing, or boiled dishes.

Kogomi are the young shoots of the spring fern, kuvasotetsu. These tightly curled young shoots, resembling fiddleheads, are the first to emerge from the soil and are harvested for consumption.

Unlike other wild vegetables, kogomi have no bitterness and are easy to prepare. They are especially delicious when mixed with spicy mayonnaise, making them a perfect accompaniment to drinks. We highly recommend them.

While fiddleheads are wrapped in fuzz, the curled young shoots of kogomi are not. They are a soft, refreshing, light green color. They can be boiled and squeezed, or used fresh for tempura. Their mild flavor makes them versatile for any cooking method. They can also be drained and frozen.

Kogomi grow quickly, and their curled shoots soon unfurl into ferns.

This year, they have already grown and unfurled rapidly. The surrounding area is now covered in soft young leaves and fresh greenery.

They root well and propagate vigorously.

We will send them with their fern leaves attached. The roots will be lightly covered with soil to prevent drying and protected with sphagnum moss for shipping. If the leaves are large, we may trim them to fit for shipping. Please understand that the packaging paper may become soiled with soil or moisture.

We will ship them carefully to avoid damage to the outer packaging, but please understand that there may be some minor soiling.

Once you receive them, please plant them outdoors immediately. You might be able to harvest a small amount next spring! We look forward to it!
