【Characteristics of Pawpaw】
Pawpaws are tropical yet cold-hardy! Their creamy flesh is very delicious.
Pawpaws are native to the north-central region of the East Coast of the United States. They belong to the Annonaceae family, which also includes Atemoya and Cherimoya. While other species in this family are tropical or subtropical fruit trees, pawpaws are cold-tolerant and can be cultivated in most regions of Japan.
When ripe, pawpaws emit a unique sweet aroma, reminiscent of tropical fruits. The taste varies by variety, but it has a sticky, sweet, creamy texture, with a flavor reminiscent of a mix of avocado, banana, mango, and persimmon. Its rich flavor, often described as custard cream of the forest, is its charm.
