Description
This is a natural fossil discovered in Yoro Valley (Yorokeikoku), a treasure trove of geology in Chiba Prefecture.
This geological stratum is also known as the international standard site for the Chibanian (Chiba Period), which indicates the history of Earth's magnetic field reversals, making it an area of extremely high academic value.
[A One-of-a-Kind Piece with a Story]
This specimen was accidentally discovered and picked up in early December of this year while walking along the stream during a autumn foliage viewing (hiking) trip in Yoro Valley. A bivalve from hundreds of thousands of years ago, smoothed into an art-like shape by the valley's currents, emerged through a chance encounter. This is a special item that evokes ancient romance and Japan's beautiful four seasons.
Type: A fossil of a bivalve (possibly from the Pectinidae family) with distinct radial ribs, beautifully preserved in a sandstone matrix.
Features: Smooth, rounded shape polished by river currents over many years (river-smoothed stone/riverbed stone). A remarkably beautiful specimen with a striking contrast between the white, clear shell parts and the deep green matrix.
Weight/Size: Approx. 263.0g / Longest side approx. 10-11cm, shortest side approx. 7cm
