[Meaning as an Auspicious Item]
Miyajima ladles are known as auspicious items, playing on the word meshi-toru (to serve rice), meaning to conquer enemies or to scoop up good fortune, making them popular as souvenirs and gifts.

[History]
It is said to have been invented in the late Edo period by Seishin, a monk from Miyajima, inspired by the shape of the biwa (Japanese lute) held by Benzaiten at Itsukushima Shrine.

[Features] Beautiful wood grain that prevents rice from sticking, and sturdy enough not to warp even with hot rice.
