Chapter 25 of the Lotus Sutra, the Avalokite?vara Sutra, describes Kannon Bosatsu as the giver of fearlessness, meaning one who bestows a state free from fear and disaster upon people. She is a Buddha who grants worldly benefits by saving all sentient beings.
Kannon Bosatsu is a sublime and great Buddha who hears the cries of suffering, witnesses the state of suffering, and saves all such people.
It is said that Kannon Bosatsu transforms into 33 different forms to save sentient beings. The fundamental form, known as Shō Kannon Bosatsu (Holy Kannon Bodhisattva), is typically depicted wearing a crown, holding a lotus in her left hand, and standing on a lotus pedestal.
