Description

This is a mandala of the Komyo Shingon (Mantra of Light).
The Komyo Shingon Mandala is a mandala where the 23 characters of the Sanskrit mantra (On Abokya Baikroshano Makahdara Mani Handoma Jinbara Harabaritaya Un), symbolizing the light emitted by Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana Buddha), are arranged in a circle. It is a powerful object of faith in Esoteric Buddhism, believed to break through ignorance and worldly desires (darkness) with the wisdom light of Dainichi Nyorai, and to bring merits such as the removal of calamities, ancestral memorial services, and the eradication of sins.

The original artwork of this mandala is enshrined at Asaka Daishi Korinji Temple, and the chief priest has distributed replicas of it in a limited edition.
