The Capps (USA) Kids Black Airlite Patent Leather Derby Lace-Up Dress Shoe is a specialized, military-grade children’s dress shoe. Its history is rooted in American manufacturing, strictly standardized military uniform requirements, and classic European footwear design.  1. Origin:  Capps:  The Capps Shoe Company was founded in 1994 (with factory assembly launching in 1996) in Gretna, Virginia, with corporate headquarters later established in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Pivot to Uniforms:  Capps initially began as a commercial women's fashion shoe wholesaler. However, in 1998, the company pivotally shifted its entire business model to uniform footwear after securing a major contract with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).   The Military Standard:  Capps became one of the largest primary suppliers of official dress uniform oxfords and derbies for every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as police, fire departments, and the National Park Service. Under the Berry Amendment, the military shoes require 100% domestic components (American leather and rubber). The Kids' Line:  While famously known for adult service members, Capps introduced downsized Kids versions of their official dress uniform shoes to cater to military academies, formal youth parade groups, junior ROTC programs, weddings, and high-end children's formal wear.
