Maruka Kosaka Lacquerware Store - Lacquered wooden oval bento box (Menpa)
This is a lacquered bento box (menpa) purchased this spring at Maruka Kosaka Lacquerware Shop near Narai-juku.
I fell in love with it at first sight in their stylish and tasteful shop and bought it.
It's a deep, reddish-brown oval shape, and I think it holds more rice than it looks.
The deep color will make your bento look beautiful when packed.
They seem to make the wood base themselves.
Using Kiso cypress and Japanese cypress, it has excellent water absorption and moisture retention, so your rice won't get sticky and will remain fluffy and delicious even when cold.
Furthermore, it features a fuki-urushi (wiped lacquer) finish, where raw lacquer is repeatedly rubbed into the wood and wiped off, making it resistant to stains and easy to care for daily.
It also has excellent antibacterial properties, which is a benefit as it helps prevent food from spoiling, even in the summer.
Its ease of daily use makes it recommended for those who want to start packing bento lunches.
I kept it stored without using it, as I wanted to use it for special occasions.
The dimensions are:
Main body: Width 8.0cm x Length 19.0cm x Depth 5.0cm
Lid: Width 9.0cm x Length 20.0cm x Depth 5.0cm
I believe it cost around 11,000 yen.
As I received a similar product around the same time, I would like to offer this to someone who can use it.
There was no original box when purchased, so I will pack it carefully for shipping.
