Vintage 1980’s Woven Split Bamboo & Rattan Basket 13” Tall

This is a vintage large woven split bamboo and rattan basket with side handles. Often called a gathering basket, it features a square-to-round construction…a square base that smoothly transitions into a rounded shape with a distinct reinforced braided rim.  It has been in home storage since the late 1980’s and is in very good vintage condition.  There was a small partially torn sticker on the inside bottom that was brittle and could no longer adhere. It is shown in a plastic bag. The label shows the basket was sold at The Flower Market, which formerly operated locations in Hampton Roads, Virginia, including at Waterside in Norfolk and Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach. The absence of an area code reinforces that this label stems from the mid-1980s to early 1990s. On the outside bottom is a sticker Made in the People’s Republic of China.  This specific wording and style of export label were prominently used on Chinese handicraft exports from the late 1970s through the late 1980s.
