Barware 1930s Art Deco Bakelite Cherry Tipped English EPNS Muddlers ~ Boxed Set
N/A
An amazing set of Bakelite Cocktail Muddlers! These silverplate muddlers were made in England circa 1930. The tips are adorned with a red bakelite finial resembling a cherry. Comes with the original box which is lined cream satin and black velvet. Box shows a little wear at one corner. These spoons resemble little shovels with a flat end (opposite the cherry end) and were designed for muddling an Old Fashioned which originally called for a sugar cube. Each spoon is hallmarked EPNS Made in England. The muddlers have a desirable natural patina and are in great condition. Bakelite cherries are also in good condition with no cracks and lovely luster. Add a bit of Art Deco style to your cocktails with these little beauties. This is an unusual set of 6, with five spoons measuring 4.5”, and one oddball spoon that’s 3.75” presumably for use in a shorter glass. In the photo with glasses, the taller spoon is shown in the taller green glass, while the shorter spoon is inside the proportionally shorter white glass. It’s also possible that the smaller spoon is from a different set. Deeper Dive: EPNS stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver” - a process where a layer of pure silver is deposited electrolytically on the base metal to give a silver finish. Nickel Silver is the base metal onto which the silver plating is applied. Nickel Silver contains no silver at all, but is an alloy of Nickel, Zinc & Copper. #barware #collectible #bakelite #cocktails #muddler #stirrer #artDeco #deco
