Description
DESCRIPTION A marvelous example of 1970s artisanal export ware, this woven wicker rooster was produced by Shanghai Handicrafts in the People's Republic of China. Hand-crafted with meticulous detail, the lidded basket features a split-willow or wicker body finished in a warm, glossy lacquer. The head, comb, and wings are carved from wood and accented with hand-painted details. Originally intended for tea storage or as a decorative sewing basket, this piece retains its original red and white Shanghai Handicrafts paper label on the underside. Size: Approximately 9 tall and 5 wide at the base. Condition: Good vintage condition with wear consistent with its age. Please note there are chips to two of the wooden comb tips (both the wood and the red paint are affected). The woven body remains sturdy, and the lid fits securely. Please see photos for details and ask with any questions. Thanks!
