-------

Iwayado Tansu (Iwayado chest of drawers) is a traditional craft with approximately 200 years of history, produced in and around Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture.
Its greatest features are the fusion of the robust grain of zelkova wood, deep and lustrous lacquer coating, and bold and artistic hand-forged metal fittings, creating a sturdy yet ornate beauty.
Its durability allows it to be cherished not just for a lifetime, but for several generations, and its appeal lies in the aging process that deepens its character with use.

Every step in the creation of Iwayado furniture is imbued with genuine skill and spirit.
The wooden frame is crafted by a single artisan from the initial wood selection. The metal fittings boast a history of up to 800 years, originating from Nambu ironware.
The lacquer finish possesses a deep, soft luster.

The reason why it creates a unique harmony in any Japanese or Western-style space is because genuine skill and spirit are breathed into all of these processes.
Furthermore, its use holds a hidden joy and enrichment that far surpasses that of ordinary furniture.
