1973 C57 Kito Line C57's Sprint Silhouette

The Kito Line is a Kyushu Railway Company line (local transport line) that runs from Yoshimatsu Station in Yūsui Town, Aira District, Kagoshima Prefecture, to Miyakonojo Station in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture. Together with the Hisatsu Line between Yatsushiro Station and Yoshimatsu Station, it is affectionately known as the Ebino Kogen Line.
The line began when the section between Yoshimatsu Station and Kobayashi Town Station (now Kobayashi Station) opened as the Miyazaki Line in 1912 (Taisho 1), branching off from Yoshimatsu Station, which was then a station on the Kagoshima Main Line. The following year, 1913 (Taisho 2), it was extended to Miyakonojo Station, the current section of the Kito Line. The Miyazaki Line was further extended towards Miyazaki and Shigeoka, connecting to the Toyo Main Line to become the Nippo Main Line. However, when the section between Miyakonojo Station and Hayato Station opened in 1932, that became the Nippo Main Line, and the section between Yoshimatsu Station and Miyakonojo Station became the Kito Line.
