This is a makiwara (tatami mat roll) for tameshigiri (test cutting) used in Iaido and Battodo.
This is the one normally used at the dojo.
The dimensions are approximately 90cm in length and 10cm in diameter (may vary slightly).
Before performing tameshigiri, soak the makiwara in water. Once the entire roll is moistened, lightly drain the water before use.
The soaking time is approximately 1-2 days.
For hygiene reasons, please change the soaking water at least once a day to prevent insect infestation.
- Please be aware that not all makiwara have the same dimensions or thickness.
