Sterling Silver Salt Spoon | Mechanics Sterling Co Early 20th Century
Mechanics Sterling Co
I am selling this small salt spoon, made of sterling silver by the Mechanics Sterling Co. (a subsidiary of Watson Silversmiths) in the late 19th or early 20th century. The spoon has a spade-shaped bowl for serving a small quantity of salt, or possibly for scooping a small quantity of hard cheese. The handle has a simple elegant design and is stamped STERLING on the back, along with the maker's mark of a small pennant with the capital letter H inside it. This spoon is in good antique condition. I have not polished it, intentionally to leave the tarnish and patina on it, to give it character. Where the bowl of the spoon meets the handle there is a darkened spot that may indicate some damage to the surface of the spoon, but the piece itself is .925 sterling silver. See photos for details of condition, sold as is. Measurements: Length: 3 3/4 Width of bowl: 5/8 Weight: 11.5 gm
